According to the 2002 census, there are 72.222 inhabitants, making the municipality one of the largest municipalities in Skopje and the Republic of Macedonia.
Ethnic groups in the municipality include:
73.3 % Macedonians, 17.3 % Albanians, 2.9 % Serbs, 2.9 % Roma, 0.8 % Turks, 0.3 % Vlachs and others 1.3 %.
The average age of the population in the municipality of Gazi Baba is 35.4, 27.4 % up to 20 years of age, 58.6 % up to 40 years of age, 14.4 % up to 60 years of age and more.
